Emergi partners with digital energy management company IOEN to improve energy accessibility in West Africa

We are pleased to share the new strategic partnership with IOEN to enable communities in West Africa to have better access to renewable energy. This partnership not only sets the foundation for IOEN’s project in the African continent but ensures the technology is deployed within Emergi's e-kekeh project currently underway in Liberia.

IOEN is the next generation of digital energy management and optimization. The tech behind it enables an interconnected system of virtual microgrids that facilitate transactions within and between local energy ecosystems: from the appliance level to energy generation, storage, and consumption.

Emergi was established by its CEO Richard van Hoolwerff, while living and working in Liberia and Ivory Coast. Since then, the Emergi team has done extensive research into the Liberian transport market, organized design thinking challenges, run a successful crowdfunding campaign and attracted investors. It is now set to import its first fleet of electric kekehs (tuktuks) into the Liberian market. This will not only increase the driver’s income through leasing, it also improves their personal safety, driving experience and health. This in turn will lead to a stronger and more resilient distribution and transportation sector for people and goods in Liberia.

IOEN’s mission is incredibly similar to Emergi- driving change from the bottom-up while ensuring everyone has access to carbon-free, renewable energy resources. To ensure this is turned into reality, IOEN has been working to create a sustainable infrastructure for clean energy with mass adoption as a core component.

“IOEN has developed something new... something great, it is a way to connect off-grid energy producers and users. This system has a vast potential yet to be explored. We are excited to be joining this exploration as partners. Together with IOEN, Emergi will co-create opportunities for our drivers to have access to energy credit to recharge their vehicles; for community members to have access to energy through the Emergi solar chargers; for solar energy surplus produced in other parts of the globe to benefit our drivers in Liberia, and many more opportunities along the way. We look forward to this fruitful partnership!”
