About Emergi

Emergi is a women-focused electric mobility company operating in West Africa. We deploy electric three-wheelers powered by solar energy, operated exclusively by professionally trained women drivers and supported by a digital fleet and ride-hailing platform.

Emergi is currently active in Liberia and preparing to expand into Sierra Leone and other West African markets. In 2025, Emergi won the “Empower a Billion Lives Global Grand Prize”, recognising the robustness, scalability, and real-world impact of our model.

As we move from validation to scale, our focus is increasingly on investability: building credible financial structures, impact data, and capital pathways that allow the company to grow responsibly and at scale.

The Fellowship

We are looking for a Sustainable Finance & Capital Readiness Fellow to help strengthen Emergi’s financial and investment foundation during this next phase.

This role focuses on making Emergi more fundable by improving financial clarity, impact data, and capital structuring, in close collaboration with the founders and board. The fellowship is Netherlands-based, with 1–2 international field visits.

What you’ll do

  • Capital readiness & investability (primary focus)
    • Support the development and refinement of financial models and unit economics
    • Help prepare investor- and lender-ready materials (decks, financial narratives, assumptions)
    • Support ongoing processes with public and impact financiers (e.g. Invest International, DGGF)
    • Help articulate a coherent capital stack and scale-up logic
  • Sustainable finance & impact data
    • Work with operational data to translate CO₂ reductions, fuel displacement, and gender outcomes into credible impact metrics
    • Explore pathways for carbon-related or results-based finance (conceptual level)
  • Capital mobilisation support
    • Support the design and preparation of crowdfunding initiatives
    • Help structure investor communications and impact reporting for retail and impact investors
    • Support onboarding of strategic private investors
  • Structuring & governance (supporting role)
    • Assist in thinking through financial flows related to social funds / foundations and community contracting models
    • Support documentation and clarity around financial governance

Who you are

  • A recent graduate or final-year student in finance, accounting, economics, business, sustainable finance, or a related field
  • Comfortable with financial models, assumptions, and translating numbers into narratives
  • Interested in innovative finance, sustainability, climate finance, or platform-based business models
  • Curious, structured, and able to work with imperfect data
  • Able to work independently in dynamic environments
  • Willing and excited to go on field visits (experience not required, mindset is key)
  • Organised, thoughtful, and motivated by real-world impact
  • Fluent in English; French is a plus
  • Strong affinity with women’s empowerment and climate justice

Supervision & Support

The Fellow will work closely with Emergi’s founders and receive regular guidance and prioritisation. Responsibilities will be clearly scoped and reviewed, ensuring learning, impact, and realistic expectations on both sides.

What we offer

  • A meaningful role in a mission-driven company at a critical growth stage
  • Direct exposure to impact finance, public-private funding, and scale-up strategy
  • Mentorship from founders and senior advisors
  • A Fellowship stipend of 500 EUR/month
  • Field visit costs covered
  • Opportunity to grow into a longer-term role as Emergi scales
