Solar-powered freezer wins MoMo Challenge 2017

Emergi won the Mobilising More (MoMo)grant of € 25.000 euro to implement their innovative business idea. With their Cool Tainer, a solar-powered freezer, they aim to create positive climate impact in developing countries. This was announced during the MoMo finals at the NationalSustainability Congress last week.

From the 44 organizations that submitted their climate proposal, the 6 mostpromising were selected by the MoMo panel to proceed to the MoMo finals. The finalists pitched their idea in front of an audience and an expert jury. Basedon the number of votes during the Congress and the preference from the MoMo panel, the Emergi Cool Tainer was selected as the winner of the MoMochallenge 2017. Because it reduces food waste and uses sustainable energy,it helps to counter the causes and impacts of climate change.

Further develop business proposition
Karen Blanken pitched the winning idea of the Cool Tainer during the finals. She already has a strategic plan on how to use the grant to mobilise more climate finance: "Emergi will use the € 25.000 seed money to further develop the business proposition, so we can also attract other, larger investors, which are needed to develop prototypes, set up production facilities, and to finance the marketing of the product."

Elbeth Bloemert from FMO and member of the MoMo panel, judged the CoolTainer from the perspective of an impact investor: "This idea is a practical and scale-able solution for developing countries that want to cool their products. This makes it an attractive business case for investors."
